Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 7, 2026

Waypoint Ledger is designed to keep your data on your device. This policy describes, honestly and completely, what the app does and does not do with information.

What stays on your device, always

  • All journal entries, sketches, signatures, voice memos, scanned documents, case files, and imported files are stored locally on your device (via Apple's SwiftData framework). None of this is uploaded to any server we operate — because we don't operate one.
  • There is no user account, no sign-in, and no cloud sync.
  • Face ID / Touch ID / device passcode used to lock private entries is handled entirely by Apple's on-device authentication system. We never see or store this data.
  • Health data (heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, HRV) is read via Apple HealthKit only when you tap "Sync Health," is written into your local journal, and is never transmitted anywhere.

What is sent over the network, and to whom

Waypoint Ledger uses a small number of external, third-party services to provide specific features. Each request only ever contains the minimum needed for that feature:

  • Weather: your approximate coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch current weather conditions. Open-Meteo does not require an account or API key and is not used for any purpose beyond returning weather data.
  • Lookup / news: your search text is sent to the Wikipedia API (Wikimedia Foundation) to fetch article summaries and the "In the news" feed.
  • Sports news: requests are sent to ESPN's public RSS feed to fetch current sports headlines.
  • In-app purchases: subscription and purchase processing is handled entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We do not receive or store your payment details.

We do not operate our own backend server, and none of the above services are used for advertising, analytics, or tracking.

What we don't do

  • We don't show ads.
  • We don't use any third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
  • We don't sell or share your data with anyone, because we don't collect it in the first place.
  • We don't track you across other apps or websites.

Permissions the app requests, and why

  • Camera: to take photos, scan documents, and use Creature Cam / Photo Insight.
  • Photo Library: to pick existing photos to add to your journal.
  • Microphone: to record voice memos.
  • Location: to center the map and to fetch local weather.
  • HealthKit: only if you explicitly tap "Sync Health."
  • Calendar: to add reminders you create from the map.
  • Face ID: to unlock entries you've marked private.
  • Apple Music: to play/pause music via the radio knob control.

Each of these is used only for the feature it's named after, and none of the underlying data leaves your device except as described above.

Children's privacy

Waypoint Ledger does not knowingly collect data from children, and since it has no accounts or analytics, no personal data is collected from anyone, regardless of age.
